BEE 2021-26 Programmes

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) 2021-26 programs encompass various initiatives focused on enhancing energy efficiency and conservation in India.

Key BEE Programs (2021-26):

  • Standards & Labelling / BEE Star Label: Continued expansion of the Standards & Labeling / Star Rating Programme, including updates to appliance categories such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and fans with new efficiency norms introduced, especially updates to Indian Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (ISEER) metrics.
  • Engagement with international partners (e.g. IEA, GIZ, UNDP) on buildings and MSME energy-efficiency roadmaps, capacity building under bilateral energy cooperation frameworks.
  • Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) and Eco Niwas Samhita updates: New model codes released around 2024 to build on earlier frameworks.
  • ADEETIE National Rollout: ADEETIE national rollout launched on July 15, 2025 in Panipat, including MoUs between BEE and MSME associations; Andhra Pradesh highlighted as key pilot contributor in sectors like jewellery (Machilipatnam), food processing (Chittoor), and pharma (Achutapuram).
  • Facilitation Centre portal onboarded over 28 financial institutions and processed hundreds of MSME applications with high investment potential; conducted 18 workshops and engaged 179 vetted energy-efficient technologies.
  • Awareness Campaigns under Mission?LiFE: BEE urged states like Andhra Pradesh to drive behaviour-based energy conservation (e.g. AC set points at 24?°C, promote five star rated appliances and solar technologies) aligning with Mission?LiFE launched in COP26, 2021.
  • SDA and State Energy Management Initiatives: States like Chandigarh set up new energy management cells that enhanced building efficiency via BEE-led coding and star rating programmes in govt buildings.

Looking Ahead: into 2026

  • Continuation of ADEETIE through FY?2025–26: Expected to scale across more MSME clusters with ongoing financing support and technology deployment.
  • Ongoing Standards & Label Updates: Frequency of rating norm revisions (e.g. for ACs and fans) to converge with emerging energy policy and technology trends.
  • Energy Efficiency Awards & Outreach: Continuation of National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) and awareness campaigns (ECBC compliance, stars, LiFE behaviors).
