Urja Mitra
Urja Mitra is an initiative under the Bureau of Energy Efficiency’s (BEE) industrial energy efficiency programmes. It involves the deployment of trained professionals at the MSME cluster level to act as technical facilitators and support personnel for promoting the adoption of energy-efficient technologies.
Objective
To strengthen local implementation of energy efficiency measures by embedding trained energy professionals within industrial clusters who can act as a bridge between BEE, MSMEs, technology suppliers, financial institutions, and ESCOs.
Role of Urja Mitra
- Conduct preliminary energy assessments and guide MSMEs on potential savings
- Support implementation of energy-efficient technologies
- Facilitate linkages with vendors, energy auditors, and financial institutions
- Act as a local resource person for awareness, outreach, and handholding MSMEs
- Monitor project progress and report outcomes to BEE and cluster stakeholders
Why It Matters
- MSMEs often lack technical capacity and awareness to adopt energy-saving measures.
- Urja Mitras fill this gap by providing on-ground support, helping reduce barriers to energy efficiency, and accelerating the transition to low-carbon technologies.
